Learning in Language Arts
In Language Arts here at James D. Adams we have been using some of the skills and resources taught by Kelly Estepp on using vocabulary and also argument writing. My students have been using two passages from McGraw Hills study sync textbook to argue whether humans or robots should be exploring space. There were several unfamiliar vocabulary words and we had to review the writing process. So I set up stations for vocabulary practice and also for finding evidence from the text. I used the bucket and chicken foot method from the DBQ resource binder to help students better understand how to separate their reasons from evidence and how to come up with an awesome claim. I was so pleased with the results and am excited to see what else the Achieve Grant with KEDC will teach me that I can implement with my students.
